New, patent pending, high quality boomless headsets with integrated array microphone specifically designed for use with the Andrea beam forming audio input software.

The problems with older computer headsets:

Up till now, a headset user would be perceived as looking like an air traffic controller. Positioning the close talking boom microphone up to your lips is an uncomfortable annoyance and incorrect positioning may result in the microphone being too far away from mouth, producing low output and weak transmitted sound. The microphone being positioned too close to the mouth can yield breath noise-popping and distortion and gets in the way of drinking and snacking.

The boom microphone is also an appendage to the headset and can look like an antenna when not used and stored in the upright position. The boom microphone is the most frequent part of a headset to break and new detachable boom designs can be lost when not in use, or may not be conveniently available when needed for spontaneous VoIP communications

Superbeam is the solution!

SuperBeam headsets retire the need for a boom microphone and provide increased convenience, so there is no more need to constantly manually position boom microphone for proper close talking operation. By incorporating one small microphone in each ear cup, our stereo array microphone technology moves the microphone pickup sensor back and away from the user’s mouth.

Reducing the background noise is achieved through sophisticated beam forming noise reduction algorithms and digital signal processing provided by the computers host processor. The far-field stereo array microphone locks-on and picks up users voice while canceling unwanted background noises.

SuperBeam headsets let then user look more natural during video chat and with no boom in front of your mouth the user has the ability to freely eat and drink during conversation operation.

The USB sound card with AudioCommander audio enhancement software upgrades any computer audio system, providing a consistent high quality audio listening experience on all computers.

The enabling technology:

The development of the SuperBeam computer headset products encompassed a wide range of engineering disciplines that were carefully crafted together to achieve a revolutionary computer audio accessory; industrial design, mechanical design, acoustic design, electrical engineering, software algorithm development and software application development were all brought together to deliver a unique feature set and advanced sound performance.

3D Surround Sound Recording:

The SuperBeam headset system also utilizes AudioCommander, an intuitive GUI dashboard for Controlling the microphone beam forming and noise reduction for enhancing your  VoIP listening and receive audio listening intelligibility.  A 10 band graphic equalizer is provided for independent frequency boost of headphone sound for optimizing the desired sound characteristics for different music genre and communications applications.

AudioCommander provides an integrated digital audio recording application for capturing stereo 3D sound with the SuperBeam headsets.  The recorder also has format compression for compressing large WAV audio file into smaller WMA files for ease of transfer.
The AudioCommander software with USB drivers for the SuperBeam USB headset are available via download from Andrea Electronics website.

The acoustics:

A new innovative sound capture feature was developed for the “boom free” microphone pick up. A stereo array microphone was created by placing one tiny microphone at each ear, pointing towards the users mouth. This location provided the necessary separation not only for the stereo array microphone adaptive beam forming technology, but also this “Binaural” placement near the user’s ears also provides a natural-head acoustic transfer function. Sound arriving at each microphone in its different phase will duplicate the real ear listening experience.

Audio playback of these binaural recordings will then deliver a realistic 3D surround sound reproduction listening experience.
Powerful neodymium magnets are employed for the speaker transducers and deliver a frequency response of 20Hz - 20KHz. SuperBeam headsets also feature a unique bass-reflex ported earphone housing design for producing deep rich bass, complementing transducer output efficiency of clear midrange and high notes.

The software algorithms:

With nine patents & new patents pending an adaptive beam forming and noise reduction algorithms were developed for the digital microphone technology to enable optimal performance of far-field voice input by digitally centering microphone sensitivity on the user’s voice and adaptively canceling non-stationary noise sources from outside of the voice pick-up cone.

The adaptive beam former (DSDA) utilizes our unique de-reverberation technique which dramatically reduces reflections caused when a speaker’s voice reverberates from walls or ceilings, which has the effect of sounding hollow in traditional far field microphone input devices. The combination of DSDA adaptive beam forming and PureAudio noise reduction provide a complete solution for enhancing far-field microphone pickup and clarity in a wide variety of user applications in noisy environments.

PureAudio, our award winning digital noise reduction algorithm, was designed to and attenuate ambient and electronic repetitive noises from the desired speech signal, improving the signal-to-noise ratio. As a result, noises such as computer fans, projectors, air conditioning and even ambient background din sounds are removed from the microphones pickup and receive signal audio stream.
The quality of computer VoIP communications intelligibility is improved and with significantly less residual distortion when used in noisy environments.

The Electronics:

The electronics of the SuperBeam USB digital audio adapter was constructed with full duplex stereo input and stereo output for the manipulation of the array microphone and stereo speaker signals by our software algorithms. The USB digital interface provides high quality analog-to-digital (A/D) input and digital-to-analog (DAC) conversion for digitizing the audio streams in high quality 16 bit.

The USB audio adapter is a means by which Andrea audio peripherals can provide our high quality digital audio effects and intelligibility improvement through plug-and-play connectivity. Andrea USB audio peripherals can interface to new or legacy computers increasing their audio capability and sound quality.
